About, how to use & limitations

About Image Converter

Image Converter lets you convert images to PNG, JPG, or WebP online, directly in your browser. Drop in any image your browser can display, such as PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, or SVG, choose the output format, and download the result. It is useful when a website, app, or form only accepts one format, or when you want smaller files for the web. You can convert up to 20 images at once, set a quality level for JPG and WebP output, and see the file size change for each image. Transparent areas become white when converting to JPG.

How to use

  1. Choose PNG, JPG, or WebP in the "Convert to" menu.
  2. For JPG or WebP, set the Quality slider (10-100%). You can change the format or quality later; the listed files are converted again.
  3. Click the "Drop images here" area or drag images onto it. Files you add later join the list, up to 20.
  4. Check the size change shown for each image, then click Download to save it, or click Download all to get every file in one ZIP.
  5. Click ✕ on a row to remove that file, or CLEAR to empty the list.

Limitations & notes

  • New files are added to the list rather than replacing it; the list holds up to 20 files and any extras are skipped.
  • Changing Convert to or Quality re-converts the files already in the list; the old results are dimmed and cannot be downloaded until it finishes.
  • Choosing JPG fills transparent areas with white; the Quality slider applies only to JPG and WebP output.
  • Input formats depend on what your browser can open; animated GIF or WebP files keep only one frame.
  • Images over about 16,000 pixels per side show an "Image too large" error; some phones have a lower limit.

FAQ

Which image formats can I convert?
You can convert any image your browser can open, including PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and SVG, into PNG, JPG, or WebP. Formats like HEIC or AVIF only work if your browser can display them.
Why did my transparent background turn white?
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with white when you convert to JPG. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Can I change the format or quality after adding files?
Yes. Changing either setting converts the files in the list again, and the sizes and Download buttons update when it finishes; until then the old results are dimmed.
Does converting an animated GIF keep the animation?
No. Only a single frame is drawn and saved, so the output is a still image.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using the HTML canvas, and the converted file is created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
