About, how to use & limitations

About JPG to WebP

Convert JPG to WebP online to make photos smaller for websites and apps. WebP usually produces noticeably smaller files than JPG at similar visual quality, which helps page speed and saves storage. This tool converts JPG and JPEG images to WebP in your browser, with a quality slider from 10% to 100% so you can trade file size for detail. You can convert up to 20 photos at once, and each result shows its original size, new size, and percentage change so you can confirm the savings before you download each file.

How to use

  1. Click the "Drop JPG files here" area or drag JPG files onto it. Files you add later join the list, up to 20.
  2. Adjust the Quality slider (10-100%, default 90%) to balance WebP file size against image detail; the listed files are converted again with the new setting.
  3. Wait for "Converting X / Y..." to finish, then check each file's original size, new size, and percentage change.
  4. Click Download next to each converted WebP file to save it, or click Download all to get every file in one ZIP.
  5. Click ✕ on a row to remove that file, or CLEAR to empty the list.

Limitations & notes

  • New files are added to the list rather than replacing it; the list holds up to 20 files and any extras are skipped.
  • Changing Quality re-converts the files already in the list; the old results are dimmed and cannot be downloaded until it finishes.
  • WebP export depends on your browser; if it is not supported, an error is shown instead of a file.
  • Files that are not JPG, whether picked or dropped, are skipped and named in a notice.
  • Images over about 16,000 pixels per side show an "Image too large" error; some phones have a lower limit.

FAQ

How much smaller will my WebP files be?
It depends on the photo and the Quality setting, but WebP is often noticeably smaller than JPG at similar visual quality. The size change is shown next to each file after conversion.
Does converting JPG to WebP lose quality?
WebP output here is lossy, so the image is re-compressed. At the default 90% quality the difference is usually hard to see; lower settings give smaller files with more visible artifacts.
Why did I get an error saying WebP export is not supported?
Some browsers can display WebP but cannot create WebP files from a canvas. Try a current version of Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Drop or select several files; files you add later join the list instead of replacing it, up to 20 in total. Each one gets its own Download button and a ✕ to remove it, and Download all saves them together as one ZIP. Files beyond 20 are skipped and a notice says how many.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using the HTML canvas, and the converted file is created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
