About, how to use & limitations

About WebP to PNG

Convert WebP to PNG online when you need a lossless image that keeps its transparent background. PNG opens in nearly every image editor, design tool, and document app, so it is a common choice for editing graphics, logos, and screenshots saved from the web as WebP. This tool converts WebP images to PNG in your browser, with transparency intact and no extra compression loss. You can convert up to 20 WebP files at once, see the size of each PNG, and download them one by one or all at once as a ZIP.

How to use

  1. Click the "Drop WebP files here" area or drag WebP files onto it. Files you add later join the list, up to 20.
  2. Wait for "Converting X / Y..." to finish, then check each file's original size, new size, and percentage change.
  3. Click Download next to each converted PNG file to save it, or click Download all to get every file in one ZIP.
  4. Click ✕ on a row to remove that file, or CLEAR to empty the list.

Limitations & notes

  • New files are added to the list rather than replacing it; the list holds up to 20 files and any extras are skipped.
  • Animated images are converted as a single still frame.
  • PNG is lossless, so the output is often much larger than the original WebP.
  • Files that are not WebP, whether picked or dropped, are skipped and named in a notice.
  • Images over about 16,000 pixels per side show an "Image too large" error; some phones have a lower limit.

FAQ

Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. PNG supports transparency, so transparent areas in the WebP stay transparent in the PNG.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
PNG uses lossless compression, which is less efficient than WebP, especially for photos. The PNG keeps every pixel of the decoded image, so the file is usually bigger.
Does converting to PNG restore lost quality?
No. If the WebP was saved with lossy compression, PNG preserves the image exactly as it is now but cannot bring back detail that was already removed.
Can I convert animated WebP files?
Only a single frame is saved, so the PNG is a still image.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using the HTML canvas, and the converted file is created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
