About Easy GPA Calculator

Easy GPA Calculator works out semester GPA and cumulative GPA for college and high school students. Add courses with credits and enter grades with one-click letter chips, percentages, or numeric grade points on a 4.0, 4.33, 4.5, or 5.0 scale. Mark courses as Honors (+0.5) or AP/IB (+1.0) to get a weighted GPA. Smart Paste fills in courses from text copied out of Canvas, Blackboard, or a transcript. Enter your current GPA and earned credits in the what-if simulator to see your new cumulative GPA update in real time, then copy a summary.

How to use

  1. Under Grading System Settings, choose your Scale (4.0 to 5.0) and Format: Letter, Percentage, or Numeric.
  2. Click Add Course, name it, then set its grade, Credits, and Type: Regular, Honors, or AP/IB.
  3. Or open Smart Paste (Auto-Fill), paste transcript text, and click Replace All Courses or Append to List.
  4. Read your Semester GPA and Total Credits in the dashboard as you edit.
  5. Enter Current GPA and Earned Credits in the Cumulative GPA Simulator to see your New Cumulative GPA.
  6. Click Copy Summary to copy the results, or Reset to clear all courses.

Limitations & notes

  • Grade points come from fixed tables for each scale, and percentages map to letters with fixed cutoffs (below 65% is F); your school may use different rules.
  • Honors adds 0.5 and AP/IB adds 1.0 to each course's points (F gets no bonus), so a weighted GPA can exceed the scale maximum.
  • Smart Paste guesses from each line: lines without a recognizable grade are skipped, missing credits default to 3, and D- is treated as D. If no line is recognized, your courses are left unchanged and a hint shows the expected Name credits grade format.
  • Courses are limited to 20 credits each and prior credits to 500; courses with 0 credits are left out of the GPA.
  • Your course list is kept only in page memory and resets to the sample courses when the page is reloaded.

FAQ

How is GPA calculated?
Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credits to get quality points, and GPA is total quality points divided by total credits. For example, an A (4.0) in a 3-credit class and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit class give (12 + 12) / 7 = 3.43.
How do I calculate cumulative GPA?
Multiply your current GPA by your earned credits, add this semester's quality points, and divide by the combined credits. Enter your current GPA and earned credits in the Cumulative GPA Simulator and the tool does this for you.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA uses the same grade points for every class. Weighted GPA adds a bonus for harder courses; here Honors adds 0.5 and AP/IB adds 1.0, while an F gets no bonus. Weighting rules vary by school, so check yours.
How are percentage grades converted to GPA?
Percentages map to letter grades on a common US scale: 97 and above is A+, 93-96 is A, 90-92 is A-, and so on down to 65-66 for a D, with anything below 65 an F. The letter is then converted to points on the scale you selected.
